I am sooooooooooo excited. I am actually having a weeks holiday CHILD FREE.
Now don’t get me wrong I love both my kids to bits, but having spent the last 13 months 1:1 with a 7 yr old (6 when we started out) my brain is completely frazzled. As well behaved as he is he talks consistently from the moment he opens his eyes in the morning until the moment he falls asleep.
So yesterday my best friend Kathie and I booked a girls only holiday to Barbados on 1st October and having tightly budgeted for the last year of travelling we decided to push the boat out for this one with upgraded flights and a 5 star luxury all inclusive hotel on the West Coast.
Kathie and I have known each other since meeting at school when we were 9 and hence have been the best of friends for almost 40 years. The last time we went on holiday together though was back in 1996 when we both took our first long haul flight to Tobago. It took us over a year to save for it and we both ran out of spending money whilst we were there but it still remains one of the best holidays I’ve ever had and hence why 23 years later we are both pretty excited about re-creating our very own adaptation of Thelma & Louise.
I am most looking forward to being able to pee in peace, not to mention being able to lie on a sunbed for more than five minutes and actually be able to close my eyes without having to sit up spinning my head like a frickin owl following every move of the small white tornado or being hearing “Mum, I need the bathroom”, “Mum, I’m hungry” etc etc. I can stay superglued to my sunbed ALL day, maybe even snooze, read a book, get a massage and engage in adult conversation. I can even stay out past 10pm …….and it can’t come soon enough, I am so ready for pure relaxation, pampering and me time.
Bajans probably won’t know what’s hit them when the Kathie/Terri duo come to town with the constant banter, sharp wit and sarcasm as we consistently bounce off one another, but one thing is for sure it will be endless laughs from start to finish.
At the ages of 48 and with a few more grey hairs, lbs and wrinkles than we had back in Tobago 23 yrs ago we probably won’t have to fend off the constant male attention we did back then, but we did quite well in convincing most that we were german lesbians who didn’t speak much english, so just to be on the safe side we are currently watching a few re-runs of Auf Wiedersehen, Pet just to ensure we perfect the accents.
7 weeks today and counting …….
